On Guard

Taken sometime during the summer of 2007, this is a crab spider (Misumena vatia) waiting for an unsuspecting bee or hoverfly to be tempted by the pollen fest that awaits inside this Ferdinand Pichard rose. Like Alium Rising this is a photo that I like very much.

Alium Rising

I took this photo in 2007 not long after I bought my first macro lens and ring flash. This is the head of an Alium not long before it sprung into bloom. The skin tells you that this is a not too distant cousin of the onion
